Jane is co-owner, winemaker and occasional tractor driver as needed. She's our hostess, her warmth and charm make visitors feel welcome in our tasting area.
She's also primary laboratory staff, pursuing a certificate in oenology and drawing on her decades of experience as a clinical RN. She crafts our wines with as much passion and finesse as she has brought to logo development and marketing materials.
Mother as well as grandmother, Jane planted all of our estate vines personally and gives her nuturing positive energy to everything she does, bringing Lightheart Cellars to life.
Sheldon is also co-owner, and primary viticulturalist, which fits his affinity for pre-dawn escapades often involving diesel fumes.
He runs our field crews, does the equipment and process engineering, (a legacy of his ongoing career in semiconductor manufacturing) and floats around the tasting area making sure that no glasses are empty for long.
On the rare weekends he's not running a tractor around a vineyard, or pouring in the tasting area, he can be found running another diesel on his classic yawl Lioness up on the SF bay.
Noah is our Meadmaker, and he helps in the cellar and tasting area as well. Jane's son has brought his fascination with the unique and arcane to creating "Alderin's Mead" for us. It has been well received among those who favor mead and several flavors are in development to complement "Ostara" which was released in Spring 2012 and "Simple Pleasures" and "Winter Celebration" in the fall, followed by 2013's "Freya's Blessing" a strawberry mead.
Joan is our utility player, she's our staff baker and confectioner, helps in the winery, runs a tractor and mans the tasting area in turn. Her bright smile welcomes all who come. Joan's experimenting with some infused meads for 2014, using vanilla, garlic, peppers and a few secret ingredients, to make cooking more interesting.
Alex is a neighbor and our first part time employee. Growing from his first experience doing trellis and irrigation repair when we started with Athena's vineyard in 2012, he's now running pick crews and assisting in the cellar during crush while attending Gavilan College.
Chris joined us for harvest '13 and has been a key asset, his cheerful disposition and willing spirity lifing many long days on the crush pad. Also attending Gavilan, he's contemplating winemaking as his field.
