We have been out pruning and spraying the past weekends, as we try to get the vines ready for 2014. With the rains very sparse so far, we're pruning to limit canopy vigor and hoping for the best. As of today, we have 6 of 20 acres pruned, with the rest scheduled to complete by 3/16. That's a bit later than in past years, but we are trying to avoid the frost risk of an early bud break, and minimize chances of Eutypa dieback due to early pruning. Our associates Alex and Chris have been stepping up in the field. Walking 20 miles with a hedge trimmer is quite a workout, even for a 20 yr old.

Our wines are aging in the barrel room, with monthly attention to topping. We recently compared our 2012 Cabernet samples to the rest of the Santa Clara Valley Wineries at a blind tasting, and both the Soli Deo Gloria and Athena's vineyards presented well. We will be assessing samples of our 2012 vintage to plan for bottling, as our "Lioness", "Delight" and "Eroika" blands have been very popular. Both the Dijon Pinot and Martini Pinot are coming along very nicely.

We have adopted some new technology for the tasting room and for social media. We'll be using Ipads and Iphones to take orders which will then be consolidated by our website host. This will allow us a better inventory management and the possibility to track visits and online activity to better serve you.
Tastings Around Town
Coming up, we have a couple of our favorite events to pour at:
On Saturday, March 22 at 6PM, we'll be at the South Valley Wine Auction. It's a chacne to sample great stuff from many local restaurants and wineries (come hungry!). Proceeds from the event benefit school athletic programs in Morgan Hill & Gilroy. Visit southvalleywineauction.org for information & tickets.
On Mother's Day (May 11th this year...don't forget or you're grounded!), we'll be helping the South Valley Symphony celebrate their 40th year at their annual Mother's Day at the Mission, held at Mission San Juan Bautista. Bring mom-it's a very elegant and simple way to celebrate her! The concert starts at 4PM, and is followed by a wine & cheese reception in the rose garden.
