Passport is coming the November 8 & 9th weekend, and we'll be selling them as usual and will have the staff ready and rested after harvest to share our new releases (as well as harvest stories) and welcome all the visitors. Year after year, we delight in the camraderie shared between wineries and wine lovers that passport brings about! Don'e forget that we will have the sounds of the Hackjammers on Saturday 11/8 and the Dan Goghs on Sunday 11/9! Plan to spend some time on our big dance rug!
2012 Fascino, our Tuscan blend of 50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet and 25% Merlot, makes it's debut. Harvested on a whim two years ago from feral vines north of Athena's Vineyard, the Sangiovese was intense and acidic. We've watched it mature, and moderated it with our Merlot and Cabernet to craft a wine that reminds us of our stay in Barga in the hills above Lucca a few years back.
2012 Cabernet: A blend of both Athena's (east Gilroy) and Soli Deo Gloria (west Gilroy) vineyards, our cabernet has a complexity that neither single vineyard showed. We're pulling our our award winning 2010 Cienega Cab back to the library.
Vineyard and Cellar News:
Harvest has extended since September 7th, but we can finally see the end coming, We'll be harvesting our last grapes this coming weekend, with picks of Petite Sirah, Mourvedre and wrapping up with Colombard on Sunday. Its been a challenge with drought, overheating forklifts, short water for cleanup and new grandkids to complicate, but our cellar crew of Joan, Alex, Chris and Filipe have done yeoman work.
Here's what 6 tons of Cabernet look like when pressed off to 3000 liters. We're letting it settle out before barreling down.
